Mobile buyer numbers are still growing. In 2023, there will be 38.7 million mobile buyers in the UK—a 2.0% increase from 2022. That means 80.0% of UK digital buyers will make at least one purchase using a mobile device this year, including orders for home delivery but also click and collect, per our latest forecast.

Growth in mobile shopper numbers is slowing as the market reaches saturation. There will be 236.7 million mobile shoppers in the US in 2023, per our forecast, up 1.5% from 2022. Nearly everyone who shops online already shops with a mobile device (98.3%)—and growth in mobile shoppers will remain around 1.5% through 2027. More mobile shoppers are converting to buyers.

The potential next move: Over half (56%) of US mobile shoppers most often browse and purchase health, personal care, and beauty products via mobile app, per a June 2023 survey by Integral Ad Science. Mobile buyer penetration is still on the rise. Across the former EU-5, there will be 139.5 million mobile buyers in 2023. That means 69.1% of digital buyers will make a purchase on a smartphone or tablet in 2023—up from 68.4% in 2022 and 3.4 percentage points higher than pre-pandemic levels. Existing mobile buyers are also spending more.
